The book trailer trend peaked around 2014, and most publishers don't do them anymore, but now that my first book is soon to be released, I couldn't help myself. Who wouldn't want an adorable audio-visual treat featuring their very own book? So I gathered all my resources and got to work. Twenty-ish hours later (ok, maybe more), this is what I had. Worth the time and effort? I kinda think so. And stay tuned: a how-to post will be coming soon.
I did a lot of googling, considering, wondering before I decided to make postcards to go along with my first book's release. I needed to think about time it would take to design, expense to print, ultimate usefulness. Ultimately I decided in favor of postcards, and I'm glad I did. Below discover why!
The release party for my first book happened just over a week ago now, and it was crazy! Crazy busy, crazy fun, crazy full of awesome people. A week (and a bit) later, I'm still glowing.
For Immediate Release (This is my press release!)
Counting With Globsters: Halloween Good Night is A Sweet and Not-So-Scary Educational Picture Book
July 25, 2017 Atheneum Books releases Halloween Good Night by Rebecca Grabill of Ada, Michigan
I was in a rush, running up north to pick up our farm share, running back to get dinner made before karate. And all day I'd been checking for updates on a delivery...
Today my happiness came in the form of an email from my editor at Atheneum Books. My first review for Halloween Good Night from Publishers' Weekly. Seriously?!? A starred review!
And then there were three ... books by me! It is with supreme delight that I announce Eerdmans Books for Young Readers will be publishing my picture book, Mama Earth's New Year. Yay!
The very first copies of Halloween Good Night!!
I can't believe how long it's taken me to post these photos. Actually, yes I can. I'm horribly lazy when it comes to keeping up with my online presence. What's worse is I actually like to blog and Facebook and whatnot, but these children! The chickens! The garden! My editor and agent who actually - gasp - expect me to write now and then!
I know, excuses excuses.
I am so full of exclamation points! See, just this morning I was showing Maggie the cover art pdf. She, always attentive, noticed the little square on the back cover where the bar code will go. "What's that?"
I have a book cover, people! For my first-ever-to-be-published picture book, Halloween Good Night! Illustrated by the incredible Ella Okstad! Due out from Atheneum Books for Young Readers (a division of S&S) July, 2017! And the cover? IS FREAKING ADORABLE!!!!
